Medical Compounds

Biomerics supplies high-performance compounds for the most challenging medical applications.  We manufacture and compound a broad range of TPU, nylon, polyolefin, and thermoplastic engineered resins with the latest technologies in polymer additives, fillers, and colors.  Our services include material selection, color matching, alloys, additive technologies, pharma compounding, and regulatory compliance.  We operate single screw, twin screw, and planetary plastic compounders ranging from 17 mm to 2 inch.

Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPEs)

Thermoplastic elastomers are a class of co-polymers which consist of both thermoplastic and elastomeric properties. The most common medical grade TPEs are TPU and PEBA (poly(ether block-amide).  Also included in this class of polymers are TPOs (olefinic alloys), SBCs (styrenic block copolymers), TPRs (thermoplastic rubbers), polyester elastomers (Hytrel), and TPVs (thermoplastic alloys).  These materials unique combination of strength and elasticity make them ideal for medical tube and device applications.

Engineered Thermoplastic Polymers (ETP)

Engineered thermoplastic polymers cover rigid polymers that are selected for their unique properties such as strength, transparency, processability, biocompatibility, and impact.  This group of polymers includes styrenic engineered polymers (ABS, SANs, HIPS, PC/ABS), polycarbonate (PC), polyamides (PA 6, 6/6, 11, 12), polyesters (PET, PETE, PBT), Acrylics, and Acetals.

Polyolefins

Polyolefins represent a family of polymers produced from single chain carbon to carbon monomers. This includes polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (LDPE, HDPE, LLDPE, UHMWPE).  Polyolefins are commonly used in medical devices for their biocompatibility, chemical resistance, and low friction.  Common applications include dilators, packaging, protectors, and molded components.

High Performance Polymers

This category of performance polymers includes high temperature and chemical resistant thermoplastic polymers such as PEEK, PES, PPS, PSU, PAI, and LCP.  Biomerics also compounds thermoplastic fluoropolymers such as FEP, PVDF, PFA, ETFE, and ECTFE.  These materials are used in implantable devices and catheters where chemical resistance and biocompatibility are critical.

Pharma-Compounds

Pharma-compounding includes the addition of drugs, antimicrobials, or specialty additives to biopolymers for ingestion or implantation.  Biomerics has the unique equipment (feeders and pharma-compounder) to compound powders, liquids, fibers, and pharmaceuticals in a clean room environment.

Additive Technologies and Colors

A wide variety of specialty additives, radiopacifiers, and colorants are utilized to customize a compound for a given medical application.  These additives may include lubricants, stabilizers, antioxidants, process aids, cross-linkers, conductive fillers, flame retardants, reinforcements and others.

All of our materials are manufactured in our ISO 13485:2003 and ISO 9001:2008 registered facilities under quality systems developed to be compliant with the FDA's Medical Device System Regulations 21 CFR Part 820.  To inquire how Biomerics may help with your next project, please contact us or request a quote.
