Ureteral Stents are small, thin tubes that can be inserted into the ureter to prevent or treat a blockage that would not allow the flow of urine from the kidney to the bladder. In many cases, the stent is placed into the ureter, one end of the stent sits in the kidney, while the other end is in the bladder. These types of devices are commonly found in the treatment of kidney stones, however, other areas that they may be used include:

  • Stricture
  • Abnormal narrowing of the ureter
  • Outside force that may push on the ureter and cause a blockage
