A port is a long-term implantable device that consists of a reservoir compartment, a septum bubble for needle insertion, and a catheter. The device is typically implanted in the upper chest, just below the clavicle or collar bone. The catheter runs from the portal in the chest into one of the large veins (such as the jugular vein, subclavian vein, or superior vena cava) and terminates just above the right atrium. The port is accessed via a safety needle and it allows the infused agents to be spread throughout the body quickly and efficiently. Ports are most commonly used to treat:

  • Hematology
  • Oncology
  • Hemodialysis Patients
