Electropolishing
We use electropolishing to improve surface finish and enhance corrosion resistance, enabling critical metal parts to perform better and last longer. Our state-of-the-art electropolishing equipment removes a microscopically precise layer of surface material from a part, resulting in an ultra smooth, defect-free surface. We use electropolishing to finish components fabricated from all types of medical-grade metals.
Heat treating
Heat treatment improves components’ corrosion resistance, biocompatibility and strength to withstand wear. Every medical device has a different use, which warrants a unique heat treatment process to provide the appropriate level of hardness and durability. We can help you develop and manufacture components with optimal properties for their desired end uses, which includes applying the specific heat treatments necessary to achieve those characteristics.
Passivation
Passivation of stainless steel removes free iron from the surface of a stainless steel component and forms a thin, dense oxide protective barrier. The most commonly used chemical passivation method for stainless steel is applying nitric acid. Nitric acid is a strong mineral acid and quickly dissolves all iron compounds and other trace metals on the surface. Since it is also a strong oxidizer, nitric acid simultaneously activates the chromium oxide layer. We also use phosphoric acid and citric acid, depending on the desired end result. Our chemical engineers work with our finishing services teams to determine the best passivation methods for your medical components.
